It’s been said that a woman’s greatest masterpiece are her children. But, while some have no problem getting pregnant, millions of women are struggling to conceive even one child. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that about 10.9% of women between 15-44 have impaired fecundity or decreased ability to get pregnant.
However, even simple lifestyle changes can greatly bolster your fertility. Check out these tips from a leading San Diego fertility clinic.
Drink Whole Milk
For most cases, we recommend our patients trying to get pregnant to STOP drinking milk. BUT, if you choose to drink milk, it should be whole and organic AND raw, is possible. Losing weight can help boost your chances of pregnancy, but one of the foods you shouldn’t drop from your diet is whole milk. Non-fat milk must be spun at high speeds to separate the fat. Unfortunately, fertility-enhancing hormones like estrogen and progesterone tend to bond to fat, so they, too, get thrown out of the milk in the process. So, if you want to jumpstart your fertility, disregard the extra calories in whole milk. They’ll be well worth it in the long run.
Cut Down on Vigorous Exercise
Love going on a vigorous night run? You’re going to want to go walking instead. According to a study involving 4,000 women, those who exercised vigorously were more likely to have difficulty conceiving.
Moreover, women who exercised daily were 3.2 times more likely to experience infertility; those who exercised very vigorously were 2.3 times more prone to infertility. So how do you keep fit and stay fertile at the same time? Go for exercise routines that are kinder to the body, such as swimming or yoga.
Take Lights-Out Seriously
Many women tap away on their smartphones or tablets way past bedtime. According to research, however, exposure to artificial light at night can affect your fertility, too. This is because light can suppress the production of the sleep hormone called melatonin, which also helps protect your eggs from harmful free radicals. So when it’s lights-out time, make sure that all lights in your bedroom are actually turned off.
Try Acupuncture
Acupuncture can actually help you get pregnant. It does so by insertion of thin needles into key points of the body, restoring the correct flow of “chi,” your body’s energy. The body thus becomes more attuned to the creation of life. In fact, a study involving 160 women found that adding acupuncture to traditional IVF leads to a much higher chance of pregnancy.
