Our experience with the Traditional Oriental Medicine Prescribed by Gerald J. H. Williams

My husband and I had an excellent experience and outcome in our treatments with Gerald Williams. Although we had no problems conceiving our three year old, we had been trying for about 15 months, and experienced one miscarriage, in our attempts at having a second child. My doctor explained to me that it was due to my advanced age, 41, and high FSH (follicle stimulating hormones) levels. The best my doctor could do was to refer me to in IVF clinic. This was not something we were prepared to pursue. A neighbor told us about Gerald Williams, a Traditional Chinese Medicine graduate specializing in infertility. We were curious, felt we had little to lose, and decided to meet with him.

Gerald explained to us his medical background and the basis of the treatment he would give to both of us. Basically, we would have to dramatically change our diet, take Chinese herbs twice daily, exercise more often if possible, and have weekly acupuncture in order to bring our bodies back to the best shape and condition possible to get pregnant.

We followed his regimen and after the first month, managed to not only lose about 8 pounds each, but also to conceive! Even before finding out we were pregnant, we were very happy that we both felt and looked healthier and that the effort would not be a total loss if we didn't quickly achieve our goal of conceiving. The diet was the greatest challenge, but probably also the most beneficial. The acupuncture was not painful at all and was provided in a very quiet, relaxing and peaceful environment.

The Chinese herbs were at first difficult to swallow (let us be honest), but we soon became used to the taste.

We are now 6 months pregnant with a healthy baby boy, due May 05. We are very pleased with our experience in this non-traditional medicine and excited about the upcoming baby in our life. We found Gerald to be a caring, warm-hearted individual, and an exceptional combination of coach, counselor, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner.

Hi Marc,
I just wanted to share our great news with you! Our baby girl was born last week and things could not have gone better! My water broke on Sunday the 13th in the morning and she was born about 6 hours after our arrival at Scripps. The labor and delivery went very well. My nurse, Pam kept saying that we were the envy of all the other nurses. She called it a text book labor and delivery. Both Kylie and I stayed strong and there were no complications at all.

My recovery has been great too!

Anyway, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for everything you have done to assist me in getting pregnant, sustaining a healthy pregnancy and delivery! By the way - you gave me the candles to put on my toes because she was breech at week 36 and a few days after starting the treatment, I had a sonogram and she had moved to head down. It was pretty funny to see my husband’s reaction when he saw what I was doing, but he is now a believer.

I initially went to see Marc to combat the tremendous amount of work-related stress I was experiencing. Marc Sklar, Lac, DA treated me during the pregnancy of my first child in 2004-2005. I arrived to him through a referral by my midwife who told me that he could help me with the aches and pains of pregnancy WITHOUT the use of medications. She had stated that he was very sensitive to “women’s issues”. As I was not interested in taking any sort of medication, I turned to Marc for help. I began to seek medical attention for my pregnancy ailments, which included TMJ, Carpel Tunnel, Congestion, and Edema.

Not only was his office and staff inviting, but Marc’s whole attitude was so attentive. He listened to my issues, and after reviewing my medical history, he began to treat me accordingly through acupuncture. It was my first experience with acupuncture, and I felt very safe. Every treatment I went to, thereafter, would help me with pains, as well as aiding me in relaxing my body. As the pregnancy came to the end, I booked my final pregnancy related visit on my due date. I went in, full term, and was told that we would “help my body get moving along towards birth”. Not 5 hours later, I began labor. And it was later that night, within 6 hours of physically being at the hospital, that I gave birth vaginally to a very healthy baby boy. To this day, I credit him with helping me naturally be induced, as well as having a speedy delivery on my first baby.

I have been to see Marc since the baby for just overall health visits, and plan to see him again for the next baby. He is a very mindful, accommodating, and well educated provider who has only a genuine interest for the patient at heart. I have recommended him to all my friends, and will continue to recommend him in the future. It has been nothing but a pleasure to be under his care.
