Dr. Sage de Beixedon Breslin has worked in the field of Psychology for over two decades. She has lived and worked in all regions of the U.S., as well as in other countries. She has come to love diversity and easily appreciates many cultures and peoples from all walks of life. Her journeys and experiences have enabled her to develop a truly transformational approach to the treatment of life challenges.
Dr. Breslin was classically trained at Northwestern University as a Counseling Psychologist. Unlike Clinical Psychology, in which patients are perceived as ill until pathology is eradicated, Counseling Psychologists perceive symptoms as indicators of an “illness of fit” between person and environment. Even in the most dire situations, creative solutions are seen as possible. Symptoms aren’t just about the person, so solutions must be multi-faceted.
Following her analytic training and a crippling back injury, Dr. Breslin decided to take some time off to begin a family. Unfortunately, after several miscarriages and extensive testing at a well-known fertility clinic, she was told that she would never be able to achieve and maintain pregnancy. According to the “experts,” not only did she have multiple physical factors that prohibited healthy pregnancy, but she and her partner were chromosomally incompatible. Immediately following receipt of those results, her relationship ended. Despondent about her life transitions, she entered her own grief therapy and tried to imagine her life without children. She committed to a healthier mind and body and began a new wellness program that incorporated regular acupuncture, massage, psychotherapy, and exercise.
For the next few years, Dr. Breslin worked towards personal wellness, focused on her career, wrote a book and developed her specialty in trauma recovery. And, when she was least expecting it, she and her new partner achieved a spontaneous pregnancy. The obstetrics team was stymied by her medical history and was unable to explain her ability to become pregnant. Months after delivering her daughter, she learned that she was again pregnant, with a son. It seems that infertility was an issue of the past. What her physicians didn’t realize was that all of the acupuncture and massage treatments she had received for her back injury were directed at her pelvis, eventually resolving all of the physical issues that had prevented pregnancy in the past. The psychotherapy, exercise and nutritional changes further reduced her stress, lowering her cortisol levels, and enabling her to become pregnant.
Mother to two children and with a very busy career, Dr. Breslin expected to feel satisfied and whole, but something was missing. After extensive self-exploration, Dr. Breslin determined that in order to really assist others, she needed a greater understanding of balance and harmony. After four years of training as a healer, Dr. Breslin opened an Integrative Medical Center and staffed it with the most comprehensive team in the country. At PATH (Professional Alliance for Total Health), the treatment of trauma, chronic illness, and eventually, infertility, became easy with all these resources available. Finally, the solutions could be comprehensive enough to actually make a difference.
Years later, family needs required a move to San Diego, where Dr. Breslin continued to provide integrative solutions for individuals and couples facing infertility. Late in 2003, she was blessed with another son. In 2004, she became the Clinical Director for Reproductive Wellness, San Diego’s first fully integrative program for the treatment of infertility. Armed with amazing clinical and life experience to provide excellent care for her clients, she has achieved a terrific sense of well-being, and has been blessed one last time, this time with twins!
